If you are a scientist requiring MS tissue for your research, in the first instance, please complete the MS Researcher Expression of Interest form.
Following discussions about your requirements, and subject to appropriate ethics approval, you will be forwarded a Tissue Request Application and Material Transfer Agreement. Applications are submitted through our REDCap system and returned to the MS Australia Brain Bank at the Brain and Mind Centre. Upon tissue request approval, the Material Transfer Agreement must be signed by all investigators as well as a legal representative of the investigator’s university or organisation before approved tissue can be released.
The outcome of the review process is based on the availability of the material and scientific merit of the project. The review process takes approximately four weeks. If your application is approved, you will be informed about the subsequent procedure for obtaining the requested samples.
Since the MS Australia Brain Bank is a non-profit organisation, investigators are not charged for tissue samples on a commercial basis, but are asked to contribute costs related to tissue shipping, handling, and processing (cost recovery).
We have recently begun collecting control tissues, however these resources are very limited. Control tissue can be requested from other Brain Banks.
